Driver Education Certification Clarification

The Department of Driver Services (DDS) requires 30 hours of classroom instruction for a student to qualify for the driver education certificate needed to receive your driver's license at age 16 and to qualify for an insurance discount. Due to the current situation, students taking the HCHS driver education class online during the 4th 9 weeks will not qualify for the driver education certificate necessary to receive a driver license at the age of 16.

Students can take an online Georgia certified driver education course to complete the 30 hours necessary to get the certificate for a driver's license. There are multiple online driver education courses that are available so make sure you search for a Georgia Certified driver education course. After completing the online certified driver education course, students will be able to print the 30 hour certificate required to receive a driver’s license at the age of 16.

Completing and passing the HCHS Driver Education online class will still qualify a student for a half unit of elective credit that can be used toward graduation.
