I have a Master's degree from Nova Southeastern University, a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education from the University of South Florida, and an Associate Arts degree from St. Petersburg Junior College.

I also have the gifted endorsement and AP Literature/Composition certification. I am also a certified Instructional Coach.

I have been teaching for 22 years, the past 14 in the Habersham County School System. I was named NGA Teacher of the Year eight years ago. I have taught English from grades 5-12.

My first eight years was in St. Petersburg, Florida. I was department chair, team leader, middle school girls basketball coach, yearbook sponsor, intern supervising teacher, Language Arts/Reading FCAT Coordinator, and an Outstanding Educator nominee. I served on a variety of committees at the school and district level: School Improvement Writing Team, Achievement Team, Classroom Learning System Cadre, Pinellas Literacy Project, First Amendment Review Committee, master schedule committee, Drop Everything and Read committee, and technology committee. I also participated in a variety of training opportunities that included: CRISS strategies (Levels 1 and 2), Best Practices, Janet Allen, Reading Renewal, Writer's Camp, meeting facilitation, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Web page design.

Since coming to Georgia, I have been a member of the Response to Intervention team who create the RTI process for NGA. I became certified to teach gifted courses. I am the Essay Coordinator for the Georgia Academic Decathlon and scored essays for the United States Academic Decathlon. I conduct essay training sessions at the annual Georgia Academic Decathlon workshop. I have been training in Thinking Maps, Common Core GPS, and Co-teaching. I am a certified Instructional Coach and certified to teach AP Literature/Composition.

I grew up in Pinellas County, Florida, but moved to Habersham to be closer to family. My husband, James, is a Johns Creek police officer. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps where he had served as a reservist through numerous deployments including one to Afghanistan and one to Iraq. We started our family with furry children: a beagle named Bullet and three wonderful cats: Smokey, Stormy, and Shadow.

We now have a precocious son, Gabe, who is now eight years old and keeping us very busy!

I enjoy reading (of course), spending time with my family, watching movies, gardening, bird-watching, photography, cross-stitch, beading, rubber-stamping, and occasionally playing video games.
