Bio

Ryan Dukes joined the Habersham Central High School Fine Arts Faculty as the Director of Bands in 2007. Under Mr. Dukes’ leadership, the HCHS Band program has grown to over 150 members participating in three concert bands, two jazz bands, many different chamber ensembles, and the Marching Band of Blue. 

A native of Nicholson, Georgia, Dukes graduated with Honors from Jackson County Comprehensive High School in 1989.  He received his Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in Trumpet from Augusta College. In 2001, he completed his Master of Science Degree with an emphasis in the Foundations of Leadership from Troy State University. 

Mr. Dukes has experience as a performer with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, the Augusta Concert Band, Savannah River Winds, The Northwinds Concert Band, Men in Brass (Brass Quintet), Sophisticated Swing Big Band, and The Augusta Jazz Project. He has also performed with many Jazz greats such as Maynard Ferguson, Ed Shaughnessy, Bill Watrous, Willie Thomas, Pete Cristlieb, Vaughn Nark, Don Menza, and Wynton Marsalis. Mr. Dukes is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the state of Georgia. 

Mr. Dukes is in his twentieth year of teaching where he has taught at all levels of public education:  one year of elementary music, three years of middle school band, and sixteen years of high school band.  He is affiliated with professional organizations that include:  National Band Association, National Association for Music Educators, Professional Association for Georgia Educators, Georgia Music Educators Association, and Association for Curriculum and Development. 

He resides in Clarkesville, Georgia with his wife Nora, an elementary music teacher. Mr. Dukes has one son Brendan, a first year medical student at Mercer University, and two daughters Katherine, a Junior at the University of Georgia majoring in Music Therapy, and Cecilia, a Junior at Habersham Central High School.
